HSE Management System for Professionals

This 24 hours course is designed for managers, agents and persons who are, or are about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and workforce in their respective workplace.

This course will enable to meet HSE challenges in daily work, and explains why this work is both important and cost-efficient. The course provides an introduction to the most important and newest theories, principles and methods within the field, but also highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce

Aims and Objectives
To assist delegate to:
• manage health and safety on site in accordance with legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory role

• develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare

• recognise a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.

At the end of the period of training, delegates will be aware of, and able to:
• implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work

• implement new guidance and industry best practice

• state their duties and responsibilities with regards to health, safety, welfare and the environment.

Contents of Training:
Session 1: Fundamental of Health and Safety Management
Welcome Introduction to the course - Explanation of the course structure, content, exercises and assessment procedure. Aims and objectives of the course

Causes and Cost of Accident- Distinguish between accident, incident and near misses, reasons for preventing accidents and prevention strategy

Overview of HSE Management System (HSEMS) – key elements and implementation strategy, health and safety responsibilities of employees and employers

Safe System of Work- outline the best practices involved in maintaining a safety and health workplace, evaluates and develops safety system of work

Session 2: Fundamental of Health and Safety Management (Cont)
Risk Assessment- Outline of the benefit of using the risk assessment process, Identification of Hazards, Risk Assessment and Risk Control

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – Outline the main types of PPE and their uses, maintenance, inspection & storage

Control of Contractor- advice the main consideration when selecting a contractor, explain how contractor monitoring can contribute to the prevention of accident and ill-health

Session 3: Fundamental of Health and Safety Management (Cont)
ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 – Benefits and development & implementation strategy

Session 4: Applied Health and Safety Management (Cont)
Health and Safety Management on site- Work at height, safe place of work, ladders, scaffolds, welfare and first aid provision, housekeeping and health issues

Machinery and work environment - identify and evaluate the main hazards associated with machinery and work equipment

STOP for supervisors- Outline safety training observation programme

Session 5: Applied Health and Safety Management (Cont)
Manual Handling & Ergonomics

Electrical Safety

Handling of Hazardous Chemicals

Fire Safety Management & Facility Evacuation Plan

Office safety

Session 6: Applied Health and Safety Management (Cont)

Workplace Auditing and Inspection

Incident investigation-identification of root causes, corrective and preventive actions

Emergency preparedness and responses

Environmental Emissions Monitoring and measurements

Session 7: Developing a positive Health and Safety Culture
Determining the health and safety culture of an organization, benefits and barriers of a positive health and safety culture, strategies for managing risks, risk management principles, risk control, advanced techniques for identifying risks to a business, constructing a business case for health and safety

Session 8: Developing the business case for health and safety
Group exercise – Health and Safety business case development
